Finding, attracting and retaining talent in Cumbria has long been recognised as an issue for the county. Despite its soaring fells, vibrant towns and stunning landscapes Cumbrian businesses often cite recruitment as one their biggest challenges. But here in Carlisle the picture is not quite as bleak, as Simon Glencross Managing Director of NXT Recruitment is quick to point out.
“We had the pleasure of sponsoring the Work and Business Category of Carlisle Living Awards, which saw a variety of winners across four sub-categories this year and came across many examples of how Carlisle is bucking the trend in terms of recruiting. There was a great mix of winners from a variety of sectors, all proving what a wonderful place Carlisle is to live and work.
Here in the city, many businesses have been quick to realise that what staff are really after is a company that cares about them as people, gives them the tools and training they need to do well and encourages them to grow if they want to. Time and again we’ve seen something about the down-to-earth approach of successful Carlisle businesses that has enticed both people to work here from afar, and local people to stay. Even our biggest employers have what we call, “authentic Carlisle warmth” about them and it’s this that makes Carlisle employers so attractive to prospective talent.”
NXT Recruitment, whose approach centres around matching people culturally as well as through job specifications have helped some of the region’s major employers with their recruitment needs. Since 2014 NXT’s experience have helped numerous companies find staff and over many individuals find their right job.
NXT Co-Director Jason Hodgson who handed out silverware at last month’s Carlisle Living Awards to Tullie House, Paragon Veterinary Group, Oak Tree Animals Charity and Eden Valley Hospice said
“Every day we come across interesting people and inspiring businesses but it’s a real honour being part of Carlisle Living Awards because so many of them are in one place! Carlisle is our home, it’s where we do much of our business and where we want to help others achieve their best for themselves and for the city as a whole. We’d like to congratulate all the winners and thank everyone involved in the awards for helping our city shine.”
