Still falling: Unemployment in Cumbria is down again. There were 4,385 job hunters claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance or Universal Credit, 1.5 per cent of the workforce, down from a restated figure of 4,470 in October.
The claimant count in Carlisle fell by 40 to 845 (1.3 per cent), in Allerdale by 30 to 1,035 (1.8 per cent), in Copeland by 10 to 885 (2.0 per cent), and in Eden by 15 to 195 (0.6 per cent).
The total for South Lakeland was unchanged at 305 (0.5 per cent) and in Barrow it climbed by 10 to 1,120 (2.7 per cent).
Nationally, the seasonally-adjusted claimant count increased by 2,400 to 809,000, the Office for National Statistics said.
