Front Line Manager
Location: Carlisle (Rural)
Hours: Full time – 42.5 hours per week
Salary: £40,000 per year, depending on experience
We’re recruiting for a Front Line Manager to join a busy and successful operations team based in Carlisle (Rural). This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and experienced leader to oversee day-to-day logistics activity, ensuring a safe, efficient, and high-performing operation.
The successful candidate will lead and support a team of drivers and office staff, working closely with senior management to deliver excellent service levels and maintain compliance across all operational areas.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and motivate a team to deliver daily operational plans efficiently and safely
- Allocate and manage resources to meet delivery and collection schedules
- Ensure full compliance with Working Time Directive (WTD) and driver hours legislation
- Maintain vehicle roadworthiness and ensure all defects, servicing, and MOTs are up to date
- Communicate clearly with teams through daily briefings, debriefs, and one-to-one meetings
- Support driver performance and handle return-to-work meetings, investigations, and disciplinary processes where required
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators to identify improvements in efficiency
- Manage driver holidays and staffing levels to ensure adequate shift coverage
- Maintain accurate operational records and reports
- Foster a positive and engaged working culture across the team
About you:
- Experience in transport or logistics operations
- Previous supervisory or management experience essential
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate others
- Excellent knowledge of transport legislation and compliance requirements
- Confident using IT systems, including telematics and transport management software
- CPC in Transport Management or IOSH qualification desirable
- A hands-on, solutions-focused approach with a commitment to continuous improvement
