Manager – Senior Buyer

My client is a market leading construction company and they are looking for Buyer to join their experienced and dynamic team. Although predominantly office based, you will often be out on-site liaising with the team regarding requirements and meeting with suppliers and merchant, therefore a driving licence is essential.
 
This role would suit someone with construction industry experience, looking for their next challenge. Although, we are also keen to hear from experienced buyers that may have transferable skills gained from another sector.
 
Duties will include:

  • Establishing good working relationships with suppliers and merchants to ensure you are getting the most commercial deals possible
  •  Ordering stock – Agreeing prices, lead and delivery schedules
  • Shopping around for suppliers and following up on enquiries made
  • Liaising with site teams and ensuring they have enough materials for planned work to be conducted
  • Maintenance of stock levels and planning for up and coming projects
  • Liaising with the Finance department regarding procurement budget for multiple projects
  •  Ensuring suppliers are paid on time and the accounts held with them are managed appropriately
  • Playing an active part in meetings, discussing procurement and progress issues and ensuring practices are as efficient as possible

 
Skills and Experience:

  • Construction industry knowledge and experience is highly desirable
  • An understanding of buying and procurement processes is essential; You may not have held the title previously but you have been carrying out similar duties in a previous role
  • Excellent planning skills and the ability analyse numerical reports and forecast what materials will be needed and the costs
  • Excellent communication and people skills – It is essential that you are a likeable character, with the ability to build a rapport and establish relationships with colleagues and third parties
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to negotiate appropriately
  • Good with numbers and able to manage budgets
  • Looking for a career opportunity with a reputable employer
  • A full UK driving licence and own transport
