Job Type: Temporary to Permanent
Hours: Full-time
Salary: £25,420 (+20% backshift allowance)
Location: Carlisle (Rural)
NXT Recruitment is proud to be supporting a highly regarded manufacturing business in the search for production operatives.
As a production operative, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the efficient and consistent production. You’ll operate equipment safely, maintain excellent housekeeping standards, and follow safety procedures while contributing to improvements across the production process.
Shift Pattern
Current shifts are Monday to Thursday, 6am–4pm.
Over the next 12–18 months, shifts may transition to a two-shift pattern:
- Monday to Friday, 6am–2pm
- Monday to Thursday, 1pm–11pm
Responsibilities
- Attend toolbox talks and briefings to stay up to date with safety and production guidance
- Work in a safe manner at all times, adhering to all known safety procedures
- Support maintenance teams with TPM and PPM schedules when needed
- Complete administrative tasks accurately and on time, including SAP entries
- Maintain a clean and organised work area in line with housekeeping standards
- Communicate with team members about matters affecting your area of work
- Update QMS reports accurately when required
- Follow production schedules
- Maintain high standards of quality while reducing waste and rework
- Use initiative and problem-solving skills to resolve production issues
- Operate machinery safely and efficiently as trained
- Report equipment defects promptly
- Take an active role in continuous improvement efforts
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, senior managers, and other teams
- Participate in training to support skill development and operational capability
Skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Basic computer skills, with experience using internal systems such as SAP
- Understanding of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems
- Awareness of SOPs, risk assessments, and working safely in a factory environment
- Ability to guide others to help achieve production targets

Within the first year, a new starter is expected to learn the basic skills and at least one main area.
