Location: Flexible working, primarily home-based, with travel across Cumbria including community and custodial settings
Hours: 35 hours per week with flexible working
Contract: Fixed term until 28 February 2027
Salary: £25,664 per annum plus an excellent benefits package
We’re recruiting a Financial Wellbeing and Debt Support Mentor to join an impactful program supporting individuals across the criminal justice system in the Northwest of England. This role focuses on providing practical guidance and one-to-one support to help people address financial challenges, benefit entitlement, and debt issues. You will work closely with probation and custodial teams and use a relational mentoring approach to support people with complex circumstances.
This role is ideal for someone who is customer-focused, resilient, and motivated to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
Key responsibilities:
• Provide one-to-one mentoring support with a focus on finance, benefits, and debt management
• Build strong working relationships with probation, prison and community local teams
• Support individuals with complex needs using a relational and person-centred approach
• Help people understand their financial options and access appropriate support services
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting requirements
• Travel across Lancashire and Cumbria to deliver support in a variety of settings
About you:
• Experience in mentoring, support work, or a similar advocacy role
• Comfortable working with people who may have challenging or complex needs
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Able to work independently and manage a varied caseload
• Full UK driving license and access to a car is essential
• Home broadband connection required for remote working
• Experience within a custodial or justice setting is advantageous but not essential
