Overview
NXT Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for an experienced M&E Project Manager on behalf of a growing construction, engineering and renewable energy business based in Cumbria.

This is a varied and hands-on project management role covering mechanical and electrical projects across Cumbria and South West Scotland.

You will be responsible for managing projects from initial planning through to completion, working closely with clients, site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and senior management.

You’ll be spinning a number of different plates at once, from labour and materials through to deadlines, client requirements, site issues and project changes. As a result, we’re looking for someone who can think on their feet, stay calm under pressure and keep projects moving when priorities change.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, organised and confident making decisions, with the ability to take ownership of projects and solve problems without needing constant direction.

The salary starts from £50,000, with the business prepared to pay more for the right person depending on experience, skills and what they can bring to the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical and electrical projects from initial planning through to completion
• Oversee site teams, subcontractors and other trades involved in project delivery
• Coordinate labour, materials, equipment and resources to keep projects on track
• Manage multiple projects and competing priorities at the same time
• Liaise with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, site teams and internal staff
• Monitor project progress, costs, quality and timescales
• Identify potential issues early and find practical solutions
• Attend sites regularly to monitor progress and deal with issues as they arise
• Ensure works are completed safely, on time and to the required quality standards
• Maintain accurate project records and documentation
• Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety requirements
• Support the delivery of renewable energy projects including solar PV, battery storage, EV charging and heat pumps
• Manage variations, changes and unexpected issues throughout projects
• Provide regular project updates to senior management and customers
• Help improve processes and ways of working as the business continues to grow

Requirements

• Previous experience managing or supervising M&E projects
• Experience within construction, building services or a related environment
• Good understanding of mechanical and electrical installations
• Experience working across domestic, commercial and/or renewable energy projects
• Strong project management and organisational skills
• Confident managing multiple priorities and deadlines
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Able to think on your feet and make practical decisions
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
• Comfortable working under pressure and dealing with changing priorities
• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach
• Good understanding of UK health and safety requirements
• Full UK driving licence

Desirable Skills

• Experience with renewable energy projects such as solar PV, battery storage, EV charging or heat pumps
• Relevant mechanical or electrical qualifications
• SMSTS, SSSTS or other relevant site management qualifications
• Experience managing subcontractors and external contractors
• Experience managing projects from initial planning through to completion
• Commercial awareness and experience managing project costs and variations
• Experience working across multiple projects at the same time
