Overview
NXT Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor on behalf of a well-established and growing family-run construction and engineering business based in Cumbria.

This is a varied opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of a range of Cumbrian-based projects, working closely with directors, estimators, site teams, customers, subcontractors and suppliers.

Projects vary considerably in size and scope, from smaller works through to projects worth several million pounds, covering new build construction, engineering, refurbishments and rebuilds.

The successful candidate will have a good level of autonomy and will be trusted to manage projects properly, keep on top of costs and variations, and make decisions as part of a supportive and experienced team.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the commercial aspects of a range of construction and engineering projects
Work closely with Estimators, directors, site teams, customers and the wider supply chain
Monitor project costs, progress, variations and financial performance
Prepare and manage valuations, cashflows, schedules and Bills of Quantities
Manage variations, changes and additional works throughout projects
Visit sites regularly to monitor progress, quality and variations
Work closely with subcontractors, trades, architects and other project stakeholders
Work across NEC, JCT, Design & Build and other contract frameworks
Maintain clear communication between site, office, customers and supply chain
Monitor project performance and help ensure projects are delivered commercially and efficiently
Identify opportunities to improve processes and ways of working
Provide commercial information and updates to directors and senior management
Support the delivery of projects across private, public, commercial, education and charity sectors

Requirements

Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor
Experience working across a variety of construction or engineering projects
Good understanding of NEC, JCT, Design & Build or similar contract frameworks
Experience managing variations, valuations, cashflows and project costs
Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to work effectively with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team
Practical, organised and commercially minded approach
Ability to use initiative and make decisions with confidence
Degree or relevant Quantity Surveying qualification would be advantageous

Desirable Skills

Experience working across both construction and engineering projects
Experience managing projects ranging from smaller works through to several million pounds
Knowledge of a range of contract types
Experience working with public sector or commercial clients
Strong understanding of project costs, forecasting and commercial management
A proactive approach to improving processes and efficiencies
